Why Is My Dog Is Peeing Everywhere All Of A Sudden?
The first question you need to ask yourself is how old is your dog?
See, just like humans, older dogs tend to have trouble controlling their bladder.
It’s a harsh reality but as a dog ages, so does his ability to hold his water.

You will want to have him checked out to make sure that he is physically healthy, well exercised, and also that he’s eating the right foods to keep him in optimal condition.
If this has already been done, and there are no changes in the environment that could be affecting your dogs’ behavior, then your next step is to train, or should I say retrain your dog how to go potty.
Older dogs are more difficult to potty train because they are usually already set in their ways and will sometimes refuse to be trained to do something different.
So if you are having to potty train, there are three different methods in which to do so.

- Potty training pads
- The Clapping Method

Crate Training
Now, this particular method has been found to be very successful among experts and dog owners alike.
So here’s what you need to do…
You will want to find a nice comfortable crate and set it up in a convenient location.
Preferably somewhere warm and cozy and out the way of direct sunlight.
The crate should be large enough for him to stand up inside and be comfortable. But not large enough for him to wander up and down freely.
Place your dogs’ favorite toys, blankets, and anything else your dog likes into the crate before allowing him to enter the crate of his own accord.
Now, this is sometimes easier said than done and if your dog is showing any signs of fear or anxiety in and around the crate then you will need to spend a little time properly crate training your dog.
Once your dog’s fully up to speed and feels comfortable in his crate, it’s finally time to take action.
But before you let your dog wander into his crate, make sure he has recently been to the bathroom and is ready to be crated.
Take your dog to his crate and shut the gate.
Remember, your dog must be happy to oblige should in no way be forced into his crate under any circumstances.
Once they’re inside simply shut the crate and leave them be.
Simple right?
The reason this works so well is that dogs don’t relieve themselves where they sleep.
At least not on purpose anyway.
So if your dog is fit and well then there is absolutely no reason whatsoever that your dog should be toileting in his crate.

A word of warning though…
If the crate is too big then your dog may just relieve himself on one side of the crate before proceeding to spend the rest of his time on the other side of the crate.
This is why it’s so important to choose the correct sized crate for your dog.
If it’s too big then this method may not have the desired effect that you want it to.

Potty Training Pads
This is probably one of the most practical methods for potty training your dog.
You will want to gate off an area where you can place his food, drink, toys and the potty pad.
This is a more restrictive method of training that does not allow your dog to move around anywhere in your home except for the limited area that holds the potty pad.
Your dog should adapt to this method and understand that there is a limited area for him to pee. Once you see your dog using the potty pad technique, reward him with a doggie treat, a walk or some playtime.
It takes patience but soon he’ll begin to understand the exact spot he should be doing his business start to use it consistently.
A clever little trick you can also use is to take an already used potty pad and leave it in the location that you want your dog to go eliminate.
The familiar scent will give him a great indication of exactly where he should go and stop unwanted accidents in the rest of your home.
The Clapping Method
Now, this isn’t exactly an accident prevention method as it involves actually catching your dog in the act.
But for frequent and random accidents it’s a perfect little tool you can use to at least limit the damage to your carpet.
So here’s how it works…
Whenever you catch your dog doing the deed where he shouldn’t be, simply give a sharp but gentle clap.
This clap should loud be enough to startle your dog but not so loud so he goes running for cover.
What should happen is that the sudden shock from the clap will cause your dog to stop urinating midstream.
When this happens quickly remove him from the area and take him to the correct location to finish his business.
So how does this stop your dog ruining the carpets you say?
Well, it doesn’t, at least not at first anyway.
What it will do though is slowly but surely teach your dog not to eliminate wherever he pleases.
I know it’s not a foolproof solution but hey, a little trickle is much easier to clean than a tsunami so consider it a small win and move on.
Of course, you’re still going to have a few messes to clean up so make sure you keep an enzymatic spray cleaner handy at all times.
